"Those Before Us," is Ed Towles' 64 page book of black and white linoleum cut prints from 1991-2008. Some of the illustrations are icons Ray Charles, Frederick Douglass, Zora Neale Hurston, President Barack Obama and Harriet Tubman. Prints of musical inspirations from festivals and venues are also included as well as prints delving into human foibles and spirituality.

Towles, a graphic designer and former art director for American Vision and Black Enterprise Magazines, has shown his work locally and nationally said, "In portraying famous icons and events in my art, I try to depict the positive attributes of African American culture, and it is important to nurture the idea of collecting art and to help document our history."
